Alberto Gonzales tendered his resignation to President Bush on Friday while visiting the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas.

President Bush stated today that he thought Gonzales was a victim of partisan political attacks and that Gonzales was good and honorable man who received unjust criticism.

Bush now must name a successor to Gonzales. Whoever is nominated will face a contentious confirmation process.

The only surprise to Washington insiders was that the secret of Gonzales' resignation was kept between Friday and today.
